TAC(IET) - implied silence
Installation view at Bridewell Studios, Liverpool 30/08/25
TAC(I)ET - implied silence, is an installation and performance work which was performed by Lola de la Mata on August 30th 2025 at Bridewell Studios in Liverpool.
The exhibition includes her glass hearing trumpet, photograms as sonic archives of her tinnitus project and record Oceans on Azimuth.
In the video below you can see Lola playing a custom instrument which she calls the Tacet Friction Harp , developed in collaboration with percussion maker Matt Nolan.
Its unique scale was selected from recordings made at the Hudspeth Laboratory of Sensory Neuroscience, Rockefeller University, NY, of Lola's spontaneous otoacoustic emissions (SOAEs), which she experiences as tinnitus. These recordings won a Sound of the Year award in 2023.
