VIEL.ES

BUFO MAKMAL commission

I was head Composer on VIEL.ES, in collaboration with musician Strotter Inst. and dance company Bufo Makmal. Premiere 31st May 2017 at Theatre Roxy, Birsfelden, Basel.

"VIEL.ES (Much) is the answer to ALL.ES (Everything), hence an emphasis on the individual, following a collective transformation of the same. The dancer's collective, Bufo Makmal, creates an innovative setting that grapples with context in playful ways; the production principle stemming from an individual interpretation of the same tasks, as does the composition derived from this process. Through the use of signals, a web is created that leads to unpredictable encounters and separations that are facilitated by an incohesive, non-psychological approach. It's celebrating movement and searches for the joy of most possible freedom off own expression in simultaneous concordance."

TRAILER

VIEL.ES Trio is the first part of the full evening piece VIEL.ES - the latest production from Bufo Makmal - and can exist on it`s own. The dancer`s collective interest -since they started to produce dance pieces- is the range between the individual and a collective transformation of the same. The main aim is to understand and optimize the work with fluid and flat hierarchies and changing roles. In the focus of their dispute is not “just” the art -to find a common movement language and aesthetic- but very much also the production processes and how rehearsals are structured. Their thesis is; “every operational framework is visible in the dance” and on the other hand terms like groove, flow and letting go are as important in a verbal discussion and writing mails as in the studio moving. To drive the vehicle Bufo Makmal together, it doesn`t just need organisational skills and good structures, but very much too the 6th and 7th sense, or in other words a good intuition, trust and sensitivity. VIEL.ES Trio is one of the most direct pictures Bufo Makmal created, showing this research. You can see the dependency from each other - the restriction it can give- but also the possibility to fly and dive at the same time.
