THE SWIMMING POOL - FILM SCORE
The Swimming Pool, By Carmen Dusmet Carrasco
The work emerges after a 2-year, domestic-ethnographic research. In an attempt to find proof of what it means to practice care, Carmen develops an obsession to observe and capture her mother’s journey towards a precarious retirement. What began as a socio-economic study of female poverty in Spain, led to an intimate negotiation of a mother-daughter relationship. The work unapologetically submerges the viewer on a raw, personal journey about the cyclic aspect of life and the desperate qualities of love.

Painting “streams” by Britta Thie
Get an exclusive look at the inspirations and processes behind our multimedia commissions in partnership with the City of London. Marking 400 years since the Mayflower sailed to America, each of our four Associate Composers have been working alongside collaborators to create audio-visual works exploring the themes of journeys, migration and cultural identity.
Take a look at some of the initial ideas from Nonclassical Associate Composer Lola de la Mata and her chosen collaborator, director, artist, actor and model Britta Thie – their work is centred around the concept of migration and travelling through technology. This virtual scrapbook includes quotes, audio experiments, and images which will feed into the final piece, to be premiered alongside the other commissions via our YouTube channel on Wed 16 Sep.

Riot Ensemble announces 2020 solo commissions
The Riot Ensemble have today announced six solo commissions as part of their ongoing Zeitgeist project.
In November last year, PRS for Music announced that it was joining forces with Riot Ensemble and award-winning artist and composer Mira Calix to offer composers the chance to take part in development and recording workshops.
With COVID-19 social distancing measures still in place, plans have been transformed to focus on solo works, online workshops and individual coaching and mentoring sessions.
Over the next few weeks, the pieces will be recorded by Riot Ensemble musicians at home.
The composers and musicians are as follows:
Joe Bates – Marianne Schofield (double bass)
Oliver Brignall – Ruth Rosales (bassoon)
Carmen Ho – Claudia Racovicean (piano)
Zoë Martlew – Ruth Rosales (bassoon)
Lola de la Mata – Ausias Garrigos (bass clarinet)
Aidan Teplitzky – Sam Wilson (percussion)
